Tarang SΗΑΡΜΑ
Tarang Sharma is a biologist, epidemiologist, and health economist with over 20 years of experience in health policy, evidence-based decision-making, and access strategies. She has worked across regulatory submissions, HTAs, and clinical guidelines as an author, methodologist, reviewer, and decision-maker. She has led teams and projects for international organizations, NGOs, and three national governments. Currently, she is Technical Officer for the Novel Medicines Platform at WHO Europe, lead for HTA, genomics, and precision medicine for he office. She launched the NMP in 2023, establishing four technical working groups and initiating 10 projects.
She has supported HTA capacity building in six countries and started WHO Europe's genomics programme. She serves on WHO’s Global Research Agenda Advisory Committee and Quality Support Panel. Previously, she worked on COVID-19 vaccine policy at WHO HQ and led EVIPNet Europe, HEN, and EACHR secretariats. She has held senior roles at Institute for Comparative Genomics (USA), NICE (UK), Medicinrådet (Denmark), Cochrane, and NGOs in India. She also worked as a health economoist and research scientist at Novo Nordisk and Ranbaxy. She has been an editor for several journals and published widely. She holds an MS in biology (NYU), MPH (Sheffield and Copenhagen), and a PhD in public health and epidemiology (University of Copenhagen).
